LETTER OF THE DAY - Free education should be urgent goal but not pitfall
The Editor, Sir: The most current topic today centres on education. Some see ‘free education’ as the sine qua non of the ‘great society’ in which all are equal and prosperous; others are more or less sceptical.

Before we vote:7 things to look for

The Editor, Sir: Before we cast our precious votes on August 27, it is essential that we consider the qualities of the persons to whom we will entrust our lives for the next five years.

No peace without prayer

The Editor, Sir: I agree with Prime Minister Simpson Miller that the upcoming polls don’t have to be bloody, and that Jamaicans are not “irredeemably violent”.

Address agri issues first

The Editor, Sir: There is perpetual talk that more youth should get in to agriculture. Frankly, I strongly endorse the argument but there are some overburdening realities which must be confronted before this dream can ever come to fruition.

Educate on motorcades

The Editor, Sir: I hear so many people in positions of influence advocating an end to, if not outlawing, political motorcades, putting up of flags and other outward demonstrations of one’s support of political parties, with the explanation that these things give rise to political tensions and lead to violence.
