NOTE-WORTHY: School fees
published: Tuesday | July 24, 2007

School fees

My issue is about the Student Loan Bureau (SLB) and their exorbitant fees that one has to pay upon completion of study.

I need to know why there are so many fees to finance. In addition to these, there is a fee that most beneficiaries do not know about, that you have to pay while studying (in school interest). From this arises a lot of questions. Are we being charged for all these grants as well?

Back-to-school fear

As a student who will be going back to school September, I express my fear for having the election so close to the starting of the new academic school year.

I just hope that this election will be a peaceful one, regardless of the mounting political tension that has Jamaica holding its breath.

I implore the electorate to think about their children and the adverse effect that their actions could have on them. A word of advice: Be considerate and conduct yourselves in a peaceful manner.

Foreign tutors

In response to the article about recruiting foreign tutors, Jamaica should not have a negative attitude in this regard.

It not about the money but about an opportunity to help a third world country upgrade the education standards which will benefit the students and the country and tomorrow's economic growth. I know several retired teachers who will come to Jamaica and use their expertise in education.

Of course, someone will have to house us (room and board) and provide transportation while we are there but these are negotiable. Please forward this information to the powers that be. It is not impossible! Only serious enquires are welcome.

Vote!

I am a concerned Jamaican living in the U.S.A. for over 21 years and planning to return home in the near future. I am a Christian person who is very concerned about the well-being of the country. God has placed it in my spirit to tell all the heads of the churches to advise their congregations to go out and vote on election day for the Church and the elected leaders of the country should work together for the betterment of the country because anything God is not a part of, it is a part of the devil. Please take this article seriously and do what is right so that God can bless the country.
