Plan to reverse rural-urban drift
published: Tuesday | July 24, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Please consider this is as a letter to The Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, PM.

As you are well aware, the rural- urban drift is of major concern to all especially as it relates to crime and the formation of garrison communities. I am proposing that an incentive be put in place to facilitate a reversal of this trend [rural-urban drift].

The incentive would be special discounted NHT benefits for any family who will relocate to rural Jamaica and set up any business venture to employ no less that 10 persons ...with all the necessary checks in place to make sure the venture is viable. Also, seek urgently for every church hall to be used as a satellite schoolroom for college level education. Rural Jamaica needs all of our attention ASAP. Let's build Jamaica together.

I am, etc.,
