DON DON goes for his second win in the CTL Claiming Series ($210,000 and less) at Caymanas Park today when he faces six opponents in race No. 1 in series No. 2, this over 1300 metres.
Trained by Patrick Chang, DON DON last won race No. 4 in the first series over 1400 metres on April 25 when trained by Donovan Raymond failing to follow up in three subsequent races, he gets a golden opportunity to win another race today.
He can expect stiff opposition from TYRONE SON, CON-CORDE and Michael Beecham's SIXTH SENSE who actuallyran on Saturday, finishing 5-1/2 lengths seventh to ME LLAMO over 1400 metres after being hindered at the start.
Capable of rebounding
Although not the most reliable of horses, SIXTH SENSE is capable of rebounding from the convenient mark of 52.0kg, especially with a trophy at stake. She finished a good second to NEUTRALIZER over 1600 metres on May 12 and will not find the distance too sharp.
DON DON will more than likely start favourite despite failing to click behind WILD GLITZ over 1400 metres on June 23, when managing only ninth place.
However, the son of Royal Minister - Runaway Shelia has less to do in present company and should come into his own and fight out the finish.
DON DON led home subsequent winners RISING MOON and ME LLAMO over 1400 metres when landing race number four in the first CTL series in April.
Despite running wide into the straight, DON DON overhauled the front running RISING MOON a furlong out, going on to beat him by 1 1/2 lengths.
He subsequently finished seven lengths fifth to STREET FIGHTER over today's distance on June 9, which was not a bad effort and providing he can duplicate that performance today, it would be good enough to beat these.
On past performances CONCORDE has the ability to take home this trophy with only 50.0kg, but his recent performances have not been encouraging.
A bigger danger to DON DON must be the grey TYRONE SON who was a winner when last venturing over this trip in the Long Shot Trophy on March 10.
TYRONE SON finished a close fourth (running on) to NIJINSKY'S WAR over 1500 metres on June 2 and with only 51.0kg, his final rattle should take him close.
Other firm fancies on the card are SOFTLY MY DEAR to make all at the expense of RUN ROMAN RUN in the third race, BUCK THE MINISTER in the fourth, SHOWDOWN to outfinish EXOTIC GLOW in the sixth and recent fast-time winner UN-KNOWN VARIABLE to stave off NASATOL in the eighth race over the straight for overnight allowance horses.
