Victory pushes Ramgeet to fifth
published: Wednesday | July 25, 2007

Ramgeet

CHESTER, West Virginia (CMC):

Former Jamaica champion jockey Andrew Ramgeet was part of a five-win evening for Caribbean jockeys at Mountaineer Park on Monday.

Ramgeet and Trinidad and Tobago-born-rider Oswald Pereira each piloted two winning mounts and another T&T jockey Ray Ganpath, was also in winners' row as Caribbean riders swept half of the 10-race card.

With 12 wins each, Ramgeet and Pereira share fifth in the current jockeys' standings, being led by Rex Stokes (20 wins), followed by Dana Whitney (18), Huber Villa-Gomez (14) and Deshawn Parker (13).

In the US$12,600 second race over a mile, Ramgeet won the first of his two races with the eight-year-old gelding Foxboat, narrowly scoring by a nose over the 7-to-5 favourite Saribinda under leading jockey Stokes.

The in-form Ramgeet stalked the leaders down the backstretch and launched a determined bid inside the last two furlongs, edging ahead in the final stride to win with the 5-1 bet in one minute 35.99 seconds.

Ramgeet, who had also scored wins Friday, Saturday and Sunday, secured his fifth win in four race-days with Boonesville in the US$8,700 10th race.

He guided the 10-year-old gelding to a come-from-behind win by 2-1/4 lengths in the six-furlong sprint in 1:12.98 at attractive odds of 15-1.

Pereira kicked off his double with Crimson View (5-2) in the US$19,400 fifth race over five furlongs, scoring by 3-3/4 lengths in 1:00.59.

The five-year-old gelding Collegeville Kid gave Pereira his second win, capturing the US$10,600 ninth race over six furlongs, also by 3-3/4 lengths in 1:12.73.
