LONDON (AP):Tyson Gay will get another shot at the 100-metre world record in London next week.
The American sprinter will run the dash at the London Grand Prix meet at Crystal Palace on August 3, organisers said yesterday.
Last year, Gay won the 200 meters in London in a stadium record 19.84 seconds.
The 100 field will include Olympic silver medalist Francis Obikwelu. It will not feature Powell, who won the 100 last year in 9.91 seconds but is skipping the meet this time.
Gay and Powell are not expected to race against each other before next month's World Championships in Osaka, Japan.
Gay, the fastest man in the world this season with a 9.84 in the 100, had his sights set on breaking Asafa Powell's world record of 9.77 seconds at Sheffield, England, earlier this month. But the meet was spoiled by rain, and Gay won the race in just 10.13 seconds.
"It was a real shame that the conditions were so difficult for sprinting in Sheffield, but that is all part of the sport," Gay said. "I know I still have it in me to run fast, and I will be aiming to do that. ... I know how quick it (the London track) can be."
