The Editor, Sir:I would like to ask all our politicians, especially in this 'silly season', to make every effort to put Jamaica first. I am sure you all want the best for this country of ours, but you may just get carried away with the pressure on you all to win. Do try to remember that winning is not everything.
What we all need from you is consensus on the most important areas, such as health, education, security and justice. You really should all sit around a table and come up with a common policy, which will benefit every Jamaican and, having done that, both parties could take these subjects off the list of electioneering. If you do this, you will be rendering a service to this country and it would certainly ease the tension now happening in our society.
It would also be helpful if both parties would publish their manifestos, so that we have enough time to weigh both and thus help us to make a decision as to where to put our Xs. It is really not democratic for parties going into an election, barely four weeks away, to not provide us with how you plan to govern this country.
It would also be nice if both sides could think before they speak. It is extremely hard to take back the spoken word and just maybe some of your words may be misinterpreted by your followers and 'mayhem' could follow. This country and its people deserve everything that is good. Dare we hope that both sides will put Jamaica first?
I am, etc.,
