LIEGE, Belgium (CMC)

Jamaican sprinter Dwight Thomas logged a sprint double triumph and shared the spotlight with local star Kim Gevaert at the Liege International track and field meeting on Wednesday night.

Thomas won his 100-metre heat in 10.25 seconds into a 2.5-metre headwind and dominated his 200-metre run in 20.44. He won the 100m ahead of fellow Jamaican Ricardo Williams (10.30), with American Demi Omole third in 10.41. Jamaican Ainsley Waugh placed fourth in 10.46.

The other heat was won by American Leroy Dixon (10.20), chased by his American colleague Bernard Williams (10.22) and Jamaican Chris Williams (10.23).

Jamaican Williams got third in the 200m in 20.71 seconds.

Former Jamaica representative Germaine Mason secured a good victory in the men's high jump. Now competing from Britain, Mason, who won the 2003 Pan Am Games gold medal and 2004 World Indoor Championship bronze medal for Jamaica, cleared 2.24 metres for his win.

Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser captured Race 1 of the women's 100 metres 11.51, while Gevaert topped Roseby (11.34) and Mothersill (11.39) in Race 2.

Andrea Bliss secured another Top-3 finish for Jamaica and the Caribbean when she clocked 13.13 for the runner-up spot behind American Nichole Denby (13.02) in the women's 100 hurdles.
