Lifeguard's body found
published: Monday | July 30, 2007

Authurs

WESTERN BUREAU:

The mystery surrounding the disappearance of 25-year-old life-guard Barrian Authurs came to a bizarre end when his body was discovered stuffed in a pipe on the premises of the Kool Runnings Water Park in Negril yesterday.

Authurs, who went missing on Tuesday, reportedly signed in for work at the water park and was seen on the premises up to noon that day. However, when he did not return home that evening and his clothing, cellular phone and lifeguard waist bag were found at the fun park, a missing person report was filed to the police.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network liaison officer, Sergeant Dahlia Garrick, about 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Authurs' body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, stuck in a one-foot PVC pipe on the property.

The pipe was then taken from the premises where members of the fire service assisted in removing the corpse early yesterday morning. A post-mortem revealed Authurs died from cardiorespiratory failure.

Yolanda Brown, his babymother and partner, recalled her last minutes with Authurs.

"I followed him to Orange Bay on Tuesday morning, him kiss me and the baby, tell me 'later' and go on the staff bus," she said.

Déjà vu

It was an unfortunate case of déjà vu for Brown, a mother of two, whose first child's father, Matthew Parkins, disappeared without a trace four years ago. "It is not easy knowing that this has happened before, but I simply can't explain why."

Efforts to reach Dhan Paul or Roderick Clarke, of Kool Runnings Water Park, for comment were unsuccessful.

The Green Island police are investigating.
