Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) names new president

Doran Dixon, principal lecturer in the Department of Social Studies at The Mico University College, is the president-elect designate for the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA).

Mr. Dixon will be formally proclaimed president-elect at the JTA's annual conference which is scheduled for August 20 to 22, at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort and Spa under the theme: 'Quality Education - A National Responsibility'.

In the preliminary count, Mr. Dixon amassed 6,417 votes, while Angela Walker, vice-principal of DeCarteret College, received 4,813 votes.

At the conference, Ena Barclay, president-elect of the JTA, will be installed as president of the 22,000-member- strong teacher union, replacing outgoing head, Hopeton Henry.

Mr. Dixon will be proclaimed president next year when Mrs. Barclay's term expires.
