Plan for a wet weekend
published: Saturday | August 4, 2007

The island is expected to continue experiencing heavy showers and thunderstorms this weekend.

According to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), the Meteorological Service has advised that weather conditions over and around Jamaica, from last night through to Sunday, will be affected by an area of low pressure over the eastern Caribbean that is moving quickly towards the west.

The eastern parishes will begin to experience these conditions first, then other parishes as the centre of the system passes south of Jamaica, the ODPEM said.

In the meantime, the public is being advised to exercise caution when using bridges, fords and passes that are near rivers and streams that are already in spate. Members of the public are also being asked to avoid areas that are at risk from flooding and landslides, and motorists are being asked to be especially cautious when driving through the Bog Walk gorge.
