Road complaints in Clarendon
published: Saturday | August 4, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON THE subject of roads in Northern Clarendon, especially the constituency held by the present Minister of Health, Horace Dalley, and seeing letters in your columns of the July 30 on the issue of roads in Clarendon, I am prompted to write again.

Road number one - Frankfield through Johns Hall to Corner Shop

Road number two -from Silver Spring in Johns Hall through McKoy to Aenon Town.

On the second road are a number of homes, churches and an all-age school. In my previous letter, I mentioned writing to Minister Dalley about three years ago about this road, but am yet to receive a reply.

If Minister Dalley intends to campaign in the district, he will need to travel by tractor or helicopter. The road to the all-age school is practically impassable by ordinary vehicular traffic.

Less than a kilometre from the junction at Silver Spring, there is no road, and a few yards further on is what can only be described as a trench right across the complete width of what was a road.

I have also spoken to Stephen Shaw of the National Works Agency regarding both roads but, as usual, there has been no response. This is a predominantly agricultural area with a number of small subsistence holdings, with no normal exit route to get their produce to markets.

Minister Dalley and the local councillors need to visit and see the state of these roads.

I am, etc.,
