Meadhaven, Maverley clash in women's KO feature
published: Sunday | August 5, 2007

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

Promoted team Meadhaven United and Maverley Hughenden will meet in today's feature game of round one of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/Sherwin Williams women's Colour Scape knockout competition at the Duhaney Park playfield.

In the day's other games, Trelawny host newcomers Reno at Elleston Wakeland Centre, Olympic Gardens entertain St. Catherine Upliftment at Cling Cling Oval, and Arnett Gardens tackle Seaview Gardens at Tony Spaulding Sports Complex. All matches will kick off at 3:30 p.m.

"I think that the team that plays the better football on the day will win the game, because I know that Meadhaven have got a lot of new players from clubs that have not entered the competition this year," said Glenroy Flowers coach of Maverley Hughenden.

A very good team

Flowers added: "I know that they also did very well last year and are a very good team."

Maverley/Hughenden, will be relying heavily on the likes of National Under-20 midfielder Monique Price, striker Shinieka Williams and defender Trishawna Dobson.

Meadhaven United gained promotion this season to the Premier League after they captured the A League crown. Lijyasu Simms, coach of Meadhaven United, said he is very confident of victory.

"We are coming to put on a good show," said Simms. The preparation has been going fine. But we know that it is going to be a tough game."

"We have been preparing mentally and physically going into this game, so we are just waiting on the whistle to blow now, said Simms. "I don't really know much about them (Maverley/Hughenden), but I understand that they have been doing a lot of recruiting. Today our main aim is to get the three points."
