The Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) at the University of the West Indies will this month host courses on mastering the techniques of effective writing, editing and publishing your own work. The courses include: How to Succeed as a Freelance Writer and Intensive Writing and Proofreading.
The focus of the writing courses centres around thinking outside the box, exploring more diverse writing strategies and techniques, creating successful publications and making a living doing so.
More structured approach
"The course (How to Succeed as a Freelance Writer) is for current writers, whether full-time or people who are subject-matter experts and may want to earn extra income from writing about their particular interests," instructor Kellie Magnus said. "[The course] teaches them how to extend their freelance career by taking a more structured approach to writing, and understanding how to earn an extra income from it."
Ms. Magnus continued: "I want them to understand the career side of writing, how to organise and plan their writing career. I want them to understand and maximise the potential of their story by taking one story and developing it for multiple publications."
'How to Succeed as a Freelance Writer' runs from August 16 to August 18 and 'Intensive Writing and Proofreading' runs from August 11 to August 22. All are to be held at CARIMAC.
