

( L - R ) Simpson, Vin EdwardThe racing industry was recognised in the Independence Honours List when veteran trainer, Vin Edwards, and five-time champion jockey, Trevor Simpson, were conferred with the National Honour of the Order of Distincton (O.D.)
Both will be awarded their insignas at an official ceremony on the lawns of King's House on Heroes Day, Monday, October 15.
Vincent Lorenzo Edwards, 73, was recognised for his long and dedicated service to the horse racing industry and for community service, having served as a Member of Parliament for Western St. Mary and parish councillor.
Trevor Wayne Simpson was cited for his contribution to horse racing and at age 38, is the youngest to have attained an O.D. in the sport.
Simpson, who holds the record for most winners in a single season (172) in 2002, started riding as an apprentice at Caymanas Park in 1986 and won his first jockeys' title in 1989 with 96 winners. He is currently the season's leading rider with 42 winners in a bid for his sixth title.
He has so far riddern 1,248 winners locally.
