WESTERN BUREAU:

Two separate motor vehicle accidents in St. James yesterday have left an unidentified man dead and three policemen and at least two other civilians hospitalised.

At press time yesterday, police did not have the facts surrounding both accidents but investigators from the Area One Accident Reconstruction Unit were busy trying to put the pieces together to determine the probable cause of the accidents, as well as who was likely to be at fault.

The names of the policemen were not released but police sources confirmed that they are attached to the Special Squad Unit at the Montego Freeport Police Station. They are responsible for carrying out covert operations across the parish.

The policemen were travelling in an unmarked service vehicle when it collided with a truck along the Porto Bello main road about 2:30 p.m.

The unidentified man died instantly at the scene of a three-vehicle collision in Spring Gardens, near Unity Hall.
