I am of the view that Ian Boyne is one of the best journalists in Jamaica and must be commended for his work. In addition, his outstanding work is further proven by his two cutting-edge programmes Profile and Religious Hard Talk. I understand that he will be the moderator of the final debate between Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and the Leader of the Opposition Bruce Golding in the current national series of pre-election debates.
Mr. Boyne is known to be one of the speech writers of the Prime Minister. This could constitute a conflict of interest and seriously comprise the integrity of the debates commission and transparency of the debate. I therefore do not support Mr. Boyne as moderator.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------Pedestrian crossings
The residents of Passage Fort housing scheme are asking that the various pedestrian crossings located in the scheme and on the peripheral roads leading to it be repainted, especially the one used by the schoolchildren of the Portsmouth Primary School, so they can cross the Portmore Parkway.
The road surface of this one needs to be improved before it can be painted. The former crossing at the southern end of the Portmore Parkway needs to be replaced by the National Works Agency.
The residents also want the 'stop' line to be drawn at the road junctions especially, as only a few of them have stop signs.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------Airport pride
I felt very pleased and proud when I returned to the island recently to see the improvement at the Norman Manley International Airport.
Instead of leaving the aircraft by way of walking down steps, we stepped on to the boarding/landing bridge and into the terminal building. Indeed, our airports are being brought up to international standards.
In the Immigration area, the concrete columns are beautifully draped with our flag's colours - black, green and gold. The bold sign in this area reads, 'Welcome to Jamaica. Jamaica No Problem'. The latter phrase has been loosely used for some time. Our national motto - Out Of Many One People - would be more appropriate.
