The music that blared from the sound systems was almost deafening. The streets were covered with supporters clad in yellow and orange colours but among the masses they stood.

They have seen it all before, that is, the festivity and jubilation of the nomination day experience. However, nothing could have prevented these two elderly men from venturing outto see the new Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate hand in her nomination form and be named the official person to contest the upcoming general election in central Manchester for the party.

Seventy-one year-old Keith Downer travelled five miles from his home in Porus to see candidate Sally Porteous become nominated at the Mandeville Courthouse, simply because he loves his party, he said suffering from diabetes, the senior citizen in a cracked and hardly audible voice said. "Anyway mi fi reach, mi a reach. I'm not so weak that me caan come. Every election and nomination day me do dis thru mi love my party."

He is not adorned in a green shirt, nor is he wearing a green headtie or waving flags or tree branches like the other supporters, but he is showing his support. He simply sports a wristband, which he said clearly identifies him. "I don't badder put on no shirt cuz, this seh who me is aready," he told The Gleaner as he adjusts his standing position and points to the green band on his left hand.

Mr. Downer said that with the blessing of the Lord, he will be out on Election Day to support Ms. Porteous.
