Two sought in St James double murder
published: Wednesday | August 15, 2007

Noel Thompson, Gleaner Writers

WESTERN BUREAU:

Investigators in Westmoreland, Hanover and St. James are seeking two men who, they believe, can assist them in their probe into last week's double murder of a German national and her fiancé.

Their identities have not been released, as crime sleuths said they were only persons of interest.

Against this background, the police are appealing to residents in Montego Bay, who had witnessed a motor vehicle accident along Market Street, early last Wednesday, to contact them with any information they have.

The bodies were discovered in bushes along the Maryland main road in Askenish, Hanover, on August 9. Claudia Leibl Letts, 43-year-old German-born realtor and Clive Donaldson, 34-year-old electrician, were involved in a six-month relationship up to the time of their deaths.

Ex-lover in hospital

Police confirmed yesterday that Letts' former lover, with whoman earlier affair lasted about four years, remains in hospital after he was injured in the accident, in Montego Bay.

Reports are that, about 5:10 a.m. on August 8, Letts' ex-lover was walking in the vicinity of Orange and Market streets when he was hit by her silver Honda motor car, being driven by a man with one of his cronies on-board.

The car ran into the back of a van being driven by a security guard, who alighted to investigate what had happened. He was, however, surprised when the men in the car alighted, fired shots in his direction and fled, leaving the car behind.

It was later revealed that Letts' ex-lover and the men were involved in a dispute earlier, which led to them tracking him down.

Investigators who arrived at the accident scene, discovered blood and a bloodstained knife inside Letts' car. Her ex-lover sustained injuries to his hip, mouth and head.

Their probe led to Letts' house at Lot 90 in the Whitehall housing scheme in Negril, Westmoreland, where traces of blood were seen. The house was also ransacked and items were stolen. Letts and Clive Donaldson lived at the house. They were stabbed and chopped to death.

Her ex-lover has reportedly confessed to having knowledge of their murder. He remains under police guard in hospital. He has not yet been charged as his condition prevents him from attending court. Police suspect that Letts and Donaldson were murdered owing to jealousy.
