The Editor, Sir:
Since the announced election date, politicians positioning themselves to be elected, have been making promises that include free education , free health care for all ages, fundamental constitutional changes, and proposals for restructuring the security forces.
However, there have been two missing essentials which have not been effectively and convincingly disclosed and that is how will the proposed initiatives be funded and how will they address appropriate amendments to entrench constitutional provisions?
These are indeed fundamental, pertinent and crucial questions that should be addressed.
This was even more evident tn the recently held political debates between the two major political parties, in which Messrs. Omar Davies and Audley Shaw were participants.
Indeed, it would have been a welcome change in the quest for political maturity to see proposals being placed on the table, along with a formulated, distinct and unambiguous plan on how it will be realised so that the electorate would be able to scrutinise and truly make an informed decision.
There are indeed some efforts to change our political culture.
But, somehow, I get the distinct impression that the wheel of change is moving like a sloth, devoid of any serious commitment on the part of the players in the process, primarily because of expediency.
