BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (CMC):The unbeaten Jamaican Under-19 cricketers will go for their third straight win in the TCL Group West Indies Cricket Challenge limited overs series when they take on Barbados today at Molineaux.
Led by Derval Green, the Jamaicans have already virtually assured themselves of a semi-final berth, with outstanding victories against Trinidad and Tobago and hosts, the Leeward Islands.
In the opening match of the competition, Jamaica underlined their superiority over Trinidad and Tobago with an authoritative 175-run victory at Cayon.
After being inserted by Trinidad and Tobago, the Jamaicans were led by solid contributions from Green (69), Nkruma Bonner (51) and Horace Miller (40) as they chalked up a massive 285 for seven off their allotted 50 overs.
Bonner then snatched three for 11 with his leg-spin while the impressive pacer Jason Dawes snared three for 15, as Trinidad and Tobago were routed for a measly 110 in 41 overs.
HARD-FOUGHT VICTORY
In their Round Two match, Jamaica earned a hard-fought victory when they defeated the Leeward Islands at Molineaux on Tuesday.
Set a revised target of 179 runs in 42 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method after a rain interruption, Jamaica reached their target with 19 deliveries remaining to chalk up their second victory.
The platform for their victory Tuesday was an inspiring opening stand of 72 between Horace Miller (42) and Christie Jones (24).
Barbados have played consistently in their two limited overs matches thus far.
A solid third-wicket century stand between captain Shamarh Brooks and Kyle Corbin, laid the foundation for Barbados' comprehensive five-wicket victory over the Windward Islands on Monday at Molineaux.
Corbin stroked an unbeaten 68, while Brooks hammered 58 as Barbados cruised to 179 for five off 47.1 overs. The Windwards replied with 177 all out from 44.3 overs.
Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago played to an exciting tie at Conaree on Tuesday.
Set a revised target of 239 runs to win in 47 overs after rain intervened, T&T scrambled to 238 for nine in a tense last over finish.
