The Editor, Sir:I had the privilege of watching the rebroadcast of the debate between Prime Minister Mrs. Portia Simpson Miller and Opposition Leader Mr. Bruce Golding, Wednesday, August 15, on Television Jamaica.
Close to the end of the debate, moderator Ian Boyne asked for closing arguments. I was somewhat disappointed with Mrs. Simpson Miller's take on the promises being offered by Mr. Golding, stating that they will never happen, it's an impossibility.
My question is, "why are they impossibilities?" I don't think that Mr. Golding is proposing anything that does not already exist somewhere else in the world. Now, if others are able to do it, why are you limiting Jamaica and the Jamaican people? If they can do it, we can do it too.
Vision
We need to have a leader and an administration that have a vision, one that can say if we pull together, we can achieve anything we set our minds to. We are not the worst.
Mr. Golding drew examples from several foreign countries that we can emulate. Let us look at what thesecountries did and how they did it before we pronounce doom and gloom on the plans.
Clean up corruption in the Government and you are on your way to achieving much. Put Jamaica first, not self, not politics, and you will be surprised at what we can achieve.
I am, etc.,
