You may think that riding a bicycle without wheels will get you nowhere, right?
Wrong!
Try a spin bike, it will take you on the road to a great day.
The spin bike is a stationary bicycle specially designed for an aerobic workout called spinning and you can find a class in many of Kingston's gyms. Geared towards bringing out the Lance Armstrong in anyone, it burns up to 550 calories in 45 minutes according to Michael Fisher, a spin instructor with four years' experience.
Growing trend
I joined an early morning class recently at Shakti, Mind, Body, Fitness to experience the growing trend.
Bright yellow bicycles and the perky certified spin instructor Sandy Lee, greeted me at the door. I was handed a bike pad and two bottles of water, would I really need two? She walked through the basics of the spiffy-looking cycle.
A knob, in close reach, increases and decreases the resistance of the bike to simulate climbing and descending a hill.
Positions
Sandy talked the group through the hour-long session. She instructed us when to change speed, resistance or positions.
