THOMAS BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (CMC):
A 20-man training squad, comprising several players with first-class experience, has been selected to prepare for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia next year.
Six Jamaicans have been named in the provisional squad, including Horace Miller, who hit a magnificent 133 to set up victory over Guyana in Saturday's Under-19 final.
The other Jamaicans named in the 20 are Andre Creary, Shacoya Thomas, Nkruma Bonner, Jason Dawes and Devon Thomas.
The squad was announced by chairman of West Indies selectors, Gordon Greenidge, at the conclusion of the 2007 TCL West Indies Under-19 series here Saturday.
Greenidge said the team had at least 10 players who could be considered all-rounders and disclosed that he, along with fellow selectors Andy Roberts and Clyde Butts, had selected the squad from the one-day competition since the World Cup would be a limited-overs tournament.
The squad will eventually be reduced to 15 and a captain and vice-captain will be named at that time.
It is understood that the selectors have recommended Guyana's captain Steven Jacobs to lead the squad with Barbados captain Shamarh Brooks as his deputy.

The team includes several players who already have first-class experience.
Jacobs and left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul have already played senior team cricket for Guyana, while Brooks has represented Barbados.
Trinidad & Tobago's Adrian Barath has scored two centuries in the first-class competition while his counterpart Darren Bravo has been capped.
