Rapper jailed for violating probation
published: Thursday | August 23, 2007

Inga 'Foxy Brown' Marchand - Ap

NEW YORK (AP):

A judge has jailed troubled rapper Foxy Brown for violating her probation, authorities said yesterday.

Officials had sought to have the probation for the 27-year-old entertainer revoked after she was arrested last month in Brooklyn on charges she hit her neighbour with her cellphone, said Jack Ryan, a spokesman for the city's Department of Probation.

Authorities also said Brown had skipped her anger management classes and failed to get permission before travelling outside the city.

Air of entitlement

"She has an air of entitlement about her," Department of Proba-tion lawyer Matilde Leo said at a court hearing. "Probation is a privilege, not a right ... She has finally abused that privilege to the point of no return."

Her lawyer, state Senator John Sampson, argued that the case against Brown was weak and that his client is three months pregnant. He said she has turned her life around with her pregnancy and wedding plans.

Yesterday, Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson ruled Brown would have to remain behind bars until a hearing on September 7.

Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was on probation for attacking two manicurists at a nail salon in 2004. She was arrested again on August 14 for allegedly assaulting Arlene Raymond, 25, on July 30, after the pair got into a fight over Brown blasting her car stereo.
