The Editor, Sir:
This letter is a response to the commentary by Rev. Devon Dick titled 'Foreign allegiance in Parliament?' I myself am a dual citizen, born in Jamaica, but I am a British citizen. It is just a bit ridiculous to think that someone could not be loyal to a country, because they hold citizenship of another country, which is not in any conflict with the other.
Not to mention, it is only naturalised citizens who actually recite any pledge of allegiance, and most countries do not even require you to revoke former citizenship.
In the case of America, lest you forget, it was an American-born and raised, who betrayed the country to the British army during the revolutionary war. Loyalty to a country is not determined by birth or even citizenship.
I am, etc.,
LISA
