Racing at Caymanas to resume Wednesday
published: Thursday | August 23, 2007

Following the effects of Hurricane Dean, the race meet scheduled for Caymanas Park this Saturday has been abandoned.

The decision was taken yesterday morning following an emergency meeting between the board of Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) and its management.

According to CTL's racing secretary, Denzil Miller Jr., this was done following an assessment of the damage caused by the Category Four hurricane which devastated the island on Sunday.

Miller said racing will resume on Wednesday, August 29. Nominations for the meet will be taken next Monday instead of Saturday. He further disclosed that approval was given by the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) to facilitate this move.

The hurricane resulted in damage to a number of stables, part of the North Lounge and the newly-installed running rails. Power was also affected.

However, unlike September 2004 when Hurricane Ivan struck, there was no flooding of the stable area.
