Fraser scores, but misses penalty
published: Thursday | August 23, 2007

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico (CMC):

Jamaican Sean Fraser struck a late goal for Miami FC but they lost 2-3 to Puerto Rico Islanders in a critical United Soccer Leagues (USL) match on Sunday evening.

Willie Sims netted all three goals from the Puerto Ricans, while Fraser and Nico Mosquera got Miami's goals at the Ramon Loubriel Stadium.

A crowd of 5,109 watched the game.

Guatemala-born Sims, who had a US Major League Soccer (MLS) stint with the New England Revolution, opened the scoring in the 10th minute. He collected a loose ball on his chest and hit the target past Miami's Haitian goalkeeper Gabbard Fenelon. Sims scored again with a header in the 42nd minute.

The Haitian Jamil Jean-Jacques set up Mosquera with a 63rd minute goal that brought Miami back into the game, but the home side restored their two-goal advantage in the 72nd minute from the penalty spot.

Sims converted a disputed penalty for his third goal. The referee awarded the spot-kick to the Islanders when Fraser challenged Haiti's Fabrice Noel.
