Alex Hill, senior vice-president of corporate development for MiPhone, has resigned from the company.

Hill, who was in charge of MiPhone's international roaming business and commercial relationships, left the company at the end of June to relocate to Puerto Rico.

Sunday Business understands that Hill intends to start his personal business there.

Remain on contract

However, chief operating officer (COO) at MiPhone, Collin Webster, said Hill would remain with the company on a contractual basis to help monitor its roaming business.

MiPhone has roaming platforms in North America, Mexico and the Far East, where a larger proportion of the population uses CDMA technology.

Hill joined MiPhone, a subsidiary of Oceanic Digital Jamaica Ltd. in 2004, when the cellular service provider officially launched its operations in Jamaica.

The company's client base grew to 80,000 at the end of that year under Hill's stewardship, who was then chief marketing officer. It became Jamaica's third-largest cellular network. At present, the client base has increased to well over 100,000. Hill was appointed to the position of senior vice-president of corporate development in 2005.

Under his guidance, MiPhone, because of its advanced CDMA technology, forged many local and international commercial partnerships, including those with Internet Services Providers and MegaPhone.

Webster did not say who would succeed Hill.
