A time for responsible leadership
We are glad that a date has been set for the general election. It is to be regretted that the Prime Minister and the Cabinet appear to have been so indecisive in turning around the recommendation of the professional, competent and highly respected bi-partisan Electoral Commission.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS - A close shave

Hurricane Dean veered away from us at the last minute. Even more fortunately, another political hurricane also changed course at the eleventh hour. The Governor-General has at last been able to announce that the general election will shortly take place on September 3. - Don Robotham

Baptism by wind, water, fire!

The August 27 general election has been postponed as a result of the devastating impact of Hurricane Dean and at the time of writing a new date is to be announced by the Governor- General. - Roderick Hewitt
