Relief for farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture and Lands says it will be disbursing more than $100 million in relief to farmers as follows:

$90 million - for farmers of domestic crops to purchase fertiliser. In addition, the ministry has also sourced 700 tonnes of fertiliser for immediate dis-tribution.

$20 million grant - for farmers involved in greenhouse production who sustained severe damage.

$10 million - for banana farmers producing for the local market.

$3 million - for fruit farmers to prune and rehabilitate fruit trees.

$7.5 million - for cocoa farmers for losses sustained during the hurricane. One million dollars of the fund will be disbursed immediately in the form of grants to some 20,000 farmers in St. Catherine, Clarendon, St. Mary and St. Thomas.
