
The Jamaica Folk Singers - Contributed The Jamaican Folk Singers will be staging its 40th Anniversary Concert Season from September 7 to 9 at the Little Theatre, Tom Redcam Avenue.
The Jamaican Folk Singers is a non-profit singing group which was formed in 1967 by Dr. Olive Lewin. This special anniversary concert season is intended to be the major fund-raiser for the group this year, with part proceeds going towards their 2008 Summer School programme and the Jamaica Library Service.
This 40th Anniversary Concert Season, will take you down memory lane. Reliving elementary school days; experience life at home; the sharing and gossiping in the communities; courting and tender love. Patrons will also experience the preparation for and excitement of the traditional Harvest Fair, and the ever-powerful and spiritual Kumina experience, as the singers give thanks.
Overall, the concert will feature beautiful Jamaican folk music, arranged by the group's founder, Dr. Olive Lewin, folklorist and accomplished musician in piano, violin and composition.
