Caretaker found dead on church premises
published: Tuesday | September 4, 2007

Richard Morais, Gleaner Writer

FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

Caretaker of the Falmouth Assemblies of Holiness Church in Falmouth, Trelawny, 32-year-old Martin Barrett, was killed at the church early Sunday.

Police reports are that his body was found on the church compound with a stab wound around 6:30 a.m. The police also said that further investigation showed that the church office was broken into and ransacked.

It is believed that Barrett, whose duties included preparing the church for worship, may have walked into a robbery attempt while carrying out those duties and was killed.

Pastor of the church, Reverend Huntley Webster said: "He was exceedingly humble and dependable."

Barrett's sister, Charmaine Evans, said he was always helpful and he didn't have to know you to offer help. She said he was also very polite and quiet.
