Palisadoes roadway cleared after 'Felix'

The Palisadoes roadway in Kingston was reduced to a single lane for much of yesterday, after sea swells associated with Hurricane Felix covered most of the road with water, sand and other debris.

The waves pounded the roadway that leads to the Norman Manley International Airport for a few hours in the morning and police personnel were on hand early, warning motorists of the dangers of proceeding along the road. Traffic backed up for about a mile in both directions and a crowd turned up to watch the proceedings.

Workmen from the National Works Agency arrived before midday and started clearing the area. Traffic started to proceed more freely shortly afterwards.
