NOTE-WORTHY: Embassy and littering
published: Thursday | September 6, 2007

Embassy and littering

Every day I pass the new United States (U.S.) embassy and am disgusted by the vast littering that takes place because there are no garbage cans. Hundreds of people meet there daily and there is no where to place one's paper wrappings, plastic bottles, box drinks, etc. Then I hear that garbage cans are not allowed because of the fear of bombs.

Mr. Bush's war and the fear he is instilling in the world is now keeping Jamaica and the Liguanea area from looking clean and responsible. The embassy is not helping us educate our people when they necessitate the vast littering that happens daily and remains over the weekend. We as a country must demand that the U.S. embassy do something so that we Jamaicans can have a beautiful city and country, regardless of Mr. Bush's war and the fear it has created.

Campaign danger

There should be an open vote in Parliament to ban all public political campaigning. This is one of the most dangerous things destroying the island now. Just imagine the economic effect that comes into play. It is downright ridiculous. There are over 24 million people living in Canada and not one person dies as a result of election activities. I say ban public election campaigning and this will be the first step in a positive direction.

Unity plea

I write to say to all the people in Jamaica to please unite, because if there is no unity in the country it will fail, bringing poverty, thirst, hunger and starvation. Your country can be a land of plenty, believe me, so I call upon all the people to understand that all of you are important. May God bless you all.

Victory for Jamaica

Congratulations to the Jamaica Labour Party on its victory in the general election. It is a great victory for all those who put principles first and put Jamaica first as we preserve our democratic traditions in a globalised world.

We also wish to congratulate all new Members of Parliament and all of those who participated in our democracy for either side and allowed the diversities of our reasonings to compete.

We also wished to congratulate our Prime Minister-elect, Mr. Bruce Golding, on his ascendancy from the wilderness on principles. It is a victory for Jamaica. Give thanks!

Passports

With regard to the repayment of loans or obligations to the government for scholarships, new passports should not be reissued to these individuals until they meet their obligations.
