For whom the bell tolls
published: Thursday | September 6, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Ask not for whom the bell tolls; it tolls notfor me but for thee, Portia Lucretia. Your performance as Prime Minister Monday night left a lot to be desired and the look on Maxine Henry-Wilson's face tells me that come the next PNP conference the comrades are going to have Portia, Phillip and Phinn for breakfast, dinner and supper.

In his address to the nation, Bruce Golding stood head and shoulders above the Prime Minister. He understands that there will be no honeymoon as he moves to consolidate his tenuous position over the next two weeks. For the first time in 45 years, Jamaica has won an election. Those fat and lazy Members of Parliament will now have to work for their salaries and serve the people.

To continue along his line of being Prime Minister for all the people, there are three things he needs to do immediately:

1). Implement free education. Any MP objecting to this will not be able to face his/her constituents.

2). Implement the five per cent constituency fund in the next budget. No MP will vote against that.

3). Establish a Police Services Commission as an independent body whose appointment will require the support of 2/3 of Parliament. Its mandate will be to rid Jamaica of PNP/JLP gunmen and criminals of all sorts.

I wish Bruce and the JLP well, but I would not take his job for all the money in the world.

I am, etc.,

BOBBY MARSH, NDM
