Skerrit sues newspaper
published: Wednesday | September 12, 2007

ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC):

Lawyers representing Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit have filed a lawsuit against the Times, a local newspaper, after it published allegations regarding his acquisition of two parcels of land.

But the lawyers said they were also prepared to honour a September 14 deadline for the paper to offer apologies for what they are calling libellous statements against the Prime Minister.

In its August 29 edition, the Times alleged that Skerrit had acquired two portions of land valued at nearly EC$1 million (US$370,300) on his known salary of EC$5,000 (US$1,851) a month.
