LETTER OF THE DAY - Biblical background on real prophets
published: Monday | September 17, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Accept 'Holy Greetings.' Kindly allow me space to issue a warning to all those who claim to be prophets speaking on God's behalf. I really don't know if it is done out of ignorance of the written word or these people allow themselves to be used by the devil to bring reproach to the real servants of God, who really hear from God, or that these people just want to make a name for themselves at the expense of giving the devil and his angels cause to laugh at Christians, and call them liars or deceivers.

Mr. Editor, I refuse to sit by and allow this to happen. Now Sir, the God I know and serve doesn't make wild promises, His works are yea and amen, and when He speaks to his people His words must come to pass. There are a multitude of examples in the scriptures concerning God's promises, some for blessings, some for curse, but they all were fulfilled at the appointed time e.g. in the Book of Genesis.

God promised to destroy the then world by flood, Noah spoke what God said and it did happen (Gen. chapters 7 & 8). In the Book of Jeremiah God promised to bring the kingdom of Judah and Israel into captivity and it did happen. Isaiah prophesied that a Messiah would be born to save the nation and bring them back to God, and it happened (Isaiah chapt. 9). Micah also prophesied the birth of the Saviour and His place of birth (Micah 5:2). The angel announced to Mary that she would bring the Saviour into the world and it did happen (St. Matt. 1:21-25).

Mr Editor what I am trying to say to all the prophets ad prophetesses of Jamaica and the world at large is, don't say what God did not tell you to say, don't speak out of your ego or intellect and give the devil grounds to laugh at the true servants of God, and disrespect them when they truly deliver a message from God. I beseech you therefore brethren, stop that practice, it is very dangerous to the faith.

Mr Editor permit me to further say that prophecies came in two ways; foretelling and forth telling. Foretelling - what is to happen, Forth telling - what is presently happening, but is not revealed openly. I would encourage my sisters and brothers of the faith to be more protective of the name and integrity of God, don't make false utterances in his name, remember that the office of a prophet is a very important one as a prophet, a true one is God's mouthpiece to His people in the nation, and please remember that God is not a man, hence He cannot lie. May all those who desire a true word from God in times of decision making, test the prophets, because the Word of God warns us that in these last days false spirits will deceive people with lies. (I Timothy chapt. 4).

Let us be careful who prophesy to us. Sir if a prophecy was not fulfilled, there must be one or two things; (1) God did not speak to that prophet, may be someone else did (2) The prophet speaks out of ego.

May God grant mercy and pardon to all those who speak lies in His name.

I am, etc.,

CYNTHIA DOVE (Mrs.)

Montego Bay
