Man slapped with six years for buggery
published: Monday | September 17, 2007

Barbara Gayle, Staff Reporter

A man who pulled a seven-year-old boy into an abandoned building and buggered him was sentenced last week Friday to six years' imprisonment.

He is Ian Oldfield, 27, a metal worker of Greendale, near Spanish Town, St. Catherine. He also has two previous convictions for sexually molesting two young boys on different occasions.

Oldfield pleaded guilty to buggery when he appeared in the St. Catherine Circuit Court in July, but sentencing was put off until last week Friday in the Home Circuit Court.

The facts of the case were that on June 26 last year, Oldfield saw the boy walking on a road in Spanish Town. He took the boy to an abandoned house in the area and sexually molested him.

Oldfield admitted to having two previous convictions for sexually molesting two young boys. He was sent to prison for six months in 1999 for one of the offences. He was convicted again in 2004 of a similar offence and sentenced to six months' imprisonment.

Miss Justice Marjore Cole-Smith, in sentencing him, said she had to deal severely with him because he had not learned his lesson from the sentences he received for the previous convictions.
