Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva and 400m runner Sanya Richards of the United States shared the US$1 million jackpot when they won their events at the final Golden League meet of the season Sunday.

Isinbayeva, the Olympic and world champion, cleared 4.82 metres to win, having taken only two other vaults at lowe Svetlana Feofanova was the only competitor leftat 4.82 but she failed to clear the bar in all three attempts. Richards blasted off the from the blocks and won in 49.27 seconds, the fastest time in the world this year. The American has improved her season best in three straight meets. She ran 49.29 in Brussels on Friday.

"I am very proud of myself," said Richards, who also had a share of the jackpot last year, when she took home US$25a0,000. "This time I will invest and not spend everything."

The jackpot goes to athletes who win their events at all six Golden League meets of the season.

World record attempt

Having made sure of taking her share of the prize, Isinbayeva tried to improve her world record but failed at all three attempts at 5.02. She holds the world mark of 5.01, set two years ago in Helsinki, Finland, at the world athletics championships. Meanwhile no Jamaican won an event at the meet. Sprinters Marvin Anderson and Aleen Bailey and hurdler Delloreen Ennis-London bagged third places in their events.

Bailey clocked 23.08 in the women's 200m behind American Lauryn Williams who won in 22.95. Anderson was also third in the men's 200m in 20.61 as American Wallace Spearmon captured the event in 20.22. Ennis-London maintained her good late season form with a 12.69 seconds run in the 100m hurdles which was won by Sweden's Suzanna Kallur in a personal best 12.49. In the men's 110m hurdles Maurice Wignall placed sixth in 13.55. Veteran American Allen Johnson crossed the line first in 13.33. The men's and women's 100m went to Norway's Jaysuma Saidy Ndure and American Carmelita Jeter respectively. Ndure won the men's sprint in 10.14 with Jamaica's Michael Frater fourth in 10.23. Jeter ran on strongly to lift the women's 100m in 11.15 with Jamaican Sheri-Ann Brooks fifth in 11.33.
