Harding widens lead at Santa Rosa Park

Top jockey Brian Harding moved a step closer to an eighth Trinidad and Tobago jockeys' title when he won three races at Santa Rosa Park on Saturday afternoon.

Harding landed the first, fourth and ninth races on the nine-race card and rushed past the 50-win mark for the season.

He is 13 ahead of the ex-champion Ricky Jadoo (38) with Venezuela's Wilmer Galviz in third spot on 37 wins.

Harding continued his dominant season and has now won eight races in the last three race-days.

In the 1750-metre first race, Harding guided Why Ki Ki to victory by 3-1/2 lengths in one minute 43 .10 seconds.

He then landed the fourth race by 2-1/4 lengths with the debutante Starlit Sky, coveringthe 1100-metre sprint in 1:09.40.

Harding completed his three-timer with the four-year-old colt Centurion in the 1350-metre ninth race, steering the colt to a 1-3/4 length victory in 1:25.20.

Harding won back-to-back Jamaica jockeys' titles at Caymanas Park in 2005 and 2006 before returning home this season, and is bidding to add to T&T championship titles he had won in 1991, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2003, and 2004.

The next meet at Santa Rosa Park is Royal Oak T&T Derby Day on September 24.
