Learning from Asafa
published: Tuesday | September 18, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

There are many lessons that can be learned from Asafa Powell's recent experiences and his responses to them. He is the world record holder but some-times he loses a race.

When he loses he doesn't run around the track blaming the officials, the wind, his opponents, their sponsors or the fans. Nor does he demand the race be run again or his opponent disqualified.

Instead, with dignity, he accepts responsibility for his role in the loss, congratulates the winners, promises to work on the issues and goes and trains some more. The next time you see or hear from him he is breaking the world record again.

Mrs. Simpson Miller would do well to emulate Asafa.

I am, etc.,

A KEEN OBSERVER
