Stop the attacks!
published: Thursday | September 20, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

It has been a little over two weeks since the general elections were held and Mrs. Simpson Miller and some of her supporters cannot come to terms with the fact that they have lost the election.

Whether the Jamaica Labour Party won by two seats or three seats, they have still won. I think it's time we all accept that the majority has spoken.

Mrs. Simpson Miller needs to stop finding excuses and making threats about 'sleepless nights' to the JLP. Stop attacking the electoral system, these glitches have always been in the system - just ask Horace Dalley - he'll tell you more.

The electoral system was modernised under the PNP government and I can clearly recall the phrase 'free and fair election'.

Also, stop attacking the JLP for the support from the private sector; if they had that confidence in her, she would have enjoyed the same support.

I feel very disappointed in her recent behaviour. It is very obvious that after all the ads showing her 'unladylike behaviour' she has not learned a thing. Instead of trying to be their 'worst nightmare', she needs to take a break and change her strategy or course and come again.

To my fellow Jamaicans who are very sceptical about this change, be patient and compare. Give credit when it's due and criticise if they fail us. Let us all look at this as a new beginning for Jamaica and embrace it.

Good luck to Mr. Golding and his team. I hope after your tenure, you will leave behind a legacy of integrity and would have restored hope for us Jamaican people.

I am, etc.,
