Police excesses
published: Wednesday | September 26, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

September 16-22, 2007 will go down in history as one of if not the most damaging for the public image of the Jamaica Consta-bulary Force (JCF).

The JCF, throughout its history, has been shrouded in controversy especially because of the many questionable police killings and excesses, but last week was a complete disaster.

The latest self-inflicted wound to the image of the JCF has also put the new JLP administrative on the back foot. The Minister of National Security and the MP had to make a swift dash to the scene of the killings in order to calm the tempers of the angry residents and appease public anger.

Alleged police excesses were reported in St. Thomas, Hampstead, Montego Bay, Spanish Town, St. Ann and downtown Kingston, just to name a few.

I am, etc.,

CARLOS KING
