It was a grand reception as guests celebrated the 58th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on Tuesday at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

This was the first national day celebration for Ambassador Chen Jinghua since he assumed the post last year. Ambassador Chen said there was actually another reason to celebrate, as it was the same time for the Chinese Moon Festival.

He reflected on his country's path of reform and elicited applause upon the announcement of the annual gross domestic product growth of 10 per cent. He highlighted the transformation of China into an open, socialist market economy.
