Soap stars arrested for driving under the influence
published: Saturday | September 29, 2007

Lyndsy Fonseca and Natalie Zea

Yet another member of Young Hollywood has been arrested on DUI charges; only this time it's a soap star. The celebrity gossip site TMZ.com reports that Kirsten Storms, who plays the conniving Maxie Jones on General Hospital, was pulled over for throwing a lit cigarette out of her car. The officer then noticed a strong smell of alcohol emitting from her car. Storms failed sobriety tests and then was arrested and eventually released. It is presumed she will continue as Maxie on GH. Previously, Storms played Belle Black on Days of Our Lives prior to the current portrayer, Martha Madison.

Storms wasn't the only daytimer to exceed the legal limit recently. Former GH cast member Sean Kanan (ex-AJ) was also arrested, only this was his second DUI charge. This arrest falls nearly on the 10-year anniversary of his first DUI, which was in 1998. With a second arrest, he could face up to one year in jail. Kanan most recently played Deacon Sharpe on The Bold and the Beautiful.

The 36th season of the beloved game show The Price Is Right will have a new host when it begins October 15. Former sitcom star Drew Carey has been selected to fill the recently retired Bob Barker's shoes. Carey beat out Mario Lopez, who played Dr. Christian Ramirez on B&B before he became a household name on Dancing With the Stars. But did you also know that Carey beat out Doug Davidson, who plays Paul on The Young and Restless? Davidson had the credentials, too. He hosted the brief prime-time version of The Price Is Right - The New Price Is Right - back in the mid-1990s.

The fall TV season features several soap alums. As I mentioned in previous columns, Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey, One Life to Live), Tuc Watkins (David, OLTL) and Lyndsy Fonseca (ex-Colleen, Y&R) have all joined Desperate Housewives. Other soap graduates include Natalie Zea (ex-Gwen, Passions) on Dirty Sexy Money; British actress Michelle Ryan (ex-Zoe Eastenders) as the new Bionic Woman; Penn Badgley (ex-Phillip IV, Y&R) plays an edgy teen on Gossip Girl; Eddie Matos (ex-Peter, GH) stars in the ensemble drama Cane; Aubrey Dollar (ex-Marina, Guiding Light) is part of the Women's Murder Club; and Eric Winter (ex-Rex, Days) is featured in the musical drama Viva Laughlin.

An actor we are happy to see return to soaps is David Andrew MacDonald. He is reprising his role, the fallen prince Edmund Winslow, on GL beginning October 24. The actor has been sorely missed since he was written out of the soap in 2005 (he made a brief appearance in 2006). This time he brings with him Cassie's youngest child, Will, who was forced to go back to San Cristobel to fulfil his royal duties despite being a toddler. Will is now being played by Seamus Davey Fitzpatrick, who was the creepy Damien in a recent remake of the horror film The Omen. Hopefully, Will won't be giving Cassie the kind of trouble Damien was capable of.

Congratulations to Ryan Serhant, the winner of ATWT's online acting competition show InTurn. Serhant will play Evan Walsh IV beginning November 7. Word is he has a business proposition for Craig (Scott Bryce).
