The eight-year-old student of the Stella Maris Preparatory School, Don-Christopher Barnes, who saved his friend from drowning on August 20, is to receive a national honour for his bravery during this year's heritage celebrations.
According to a press release from the Office of the Prime Minister, the Governor-General will present the eight-year-old 'hero' with the Badge of Honour for Gallantry on October 15 at the National Honours and Awards Ceremony at King's House.
Don-Christopher has been raised to public acclaim since The Gleaner broke news of his courageous deed just last week. He has recently done several interviews on local radio and has even made a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at Jamaica House.
