Glenmuir rout marred
published: Wednesday | October 3, 2007

Adrian Frater, News Editor

WESTERN BUREAU:

CHAMPIONS GLENMUIR were leading Bustamante 10-0 in their Zone I fixture in the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup yesterday when the referee called a halt after the Bustamante coach refused to leave the venue after he was ejected.

Before the stoppage, a rampant Glenmuir seemed on course to eclipse the 12-0 thrashing they gave Tacius Golding on Saturday, as goalscorers Drion McNain (four), John-Ross Doyley (two), Ricardo Webb (two), skipper James Thomas and Ramon Whitter were all in full cry with five minutes to go in the game.

Injured player

While no member of the Bustamante team was prepared to go on record, it is believed the dispute arose from an allegation that the referee was ignoring an injured player lying on the field. The Bustamante coach took objection to the situation and registered his opinion quite strongly. In other games played yesterday, Garvey Maceo continue to lead the way in Zone I after a 4-0 trouncing of Old Harbour, which lifted them to 13 points and should keep them one point ahead of Glenmuir - should they be awarded full points for their unfinished game.

The 76-team competition will continue this afternoon with 27 games in 11 of 13 competing zones.
