Voting for a fun event
published: Thursday | October 4, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

What are Ian Phillpotts, Devon Dick, et al, talking about?

On the matter of Digicel Rising Stars, this was meant to be pure fun for Jamaica while showcasing the talents of those who would never get an opportunity to express themselves because the system or lack thereof does not lend itself to harnessing talents in the arts.

That aside, where in heaven's name is there such a rule that says if you love something you should measure the amount of times you express such emotion. Rising Stars is fun, F-U-N means you indulge, laugh, enjoy, roll over and laugh again. That's what voting is about.

The principle of voting more than once is the same as those of us who worship three times on Sundays - Sunday school, morning service and again at a night service. It is the same for those of us who like football or cricket and watch the repeats twice a day during the 20/20 World Cup series.

I am, etc.,

DOROTHY E. CAMPBELL
