Human trafficking case set for December
published: Thursday | October 4, 2007

Jamaica's first trafficking in persons case, involving two elderly men, is now set for trial on December 10.

The case was set for trial on Monday in the Home Circuit Court, but had to be put off because the investigating officer lives in New Zealand and was unable to attend court until next month.

The accused are 52-year-old woodcrafter Agon Stephens, and 54-year-old businessman and taxi operator, Narcot Graham, both of Kingston addresses.

The Crown is alleging that the men attempted to get a 14-year-old girl involved in prostitution.

It is further alleged that, in May last year, the men planned with an undercover police officer for him to have sexual intercourse with the girl for US$400.

The money was allegedly paid to the men and, when the police later swooped down on them, they were allegedly held with a total of US$400 in their possession.
